While the Reyvateil prestige class functions suitably under Pathfinder RPG's rules and works well enough for Cutefinder's campaign setting, I feel like it doesn't quite accurately portray the powers of Song Magic as it could. Thus, as a side project I am writing a separate set of rules and working from the ground up, basing more of its design on the Ar Tonelico games proper and incorporating mechanical aspects from a class exclusive to the third edition of everyone's favourite roleplaying game. Requirements: Female; Install Port racial trait. A Reyvateil's power comes from her connection to the tower, and the activation of Reyvateil genes is suppressed by the presence of a Y chromosome.

Class Features[edit]
The following are class features of the Reyvateil class.
Weapon and Armour Proficiency: Reyvateils are proficient with the club, dagger, light crossbow, and quarterstaff, but not with any type of armour or shield.
Song Magic (Sp): A Reyvateil's core ability is the ability to use the Perform skill to compose and invoke Song Magic by channeling the energy of her associated tower. She has a pool of Song Points per encounter equal to 4 + her Charisma modifier. At each level after 1st, a Reyvateil's gains 2 additional Song Points. These Song Points are used to invoke and maintain a chosen ability or known song, increasingly empowering it by spending its maintenance cost each round. At the completion of a spell, her remaining spell points are rounded down.
If a Reyvateil's Song Points are reduced to below half, she is fatigued for the remainder of the encounter; if they reach 0, she is exhausted for the remainder of the encounter, and fatigued thereafter.
Invoking Song Magic is a standard action that provokes attacks of opportunity, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. For every round she is singing (including the round she activated the song), she accumulates 1 point of Burst plus an amount equal to 1/10th of her charisma modifier, to a maximum of her total Song Points. Changing to another song requires the Reyvateil to stop the previous previous song and start a new one as a standard action, resetting the Burst to 0.
Song Magic can be disrupted partially by any situation that requires Concentration to maintain a spell, using the Reyvateil's Perform (sing) check instead of a normal Concentration check. Failure reduces her accumulated Burst by 1, plus 1 for every 5 she fails her check by. Song Magic ends immediately if she runs out of Song Points, her Burst is reduced below 0, or if she is killed, paralysed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. A deaf Reyvateil has a 20% chance of losing Burst for every round she's singing, though this cannot reduce her Burst below 0.
Song Magic is treated as Bardic Performance for the purposes of feats, abilities, effects, and the like that affect Bardic Performance. Like Bardic Performance, it cannot be maintained at the same time as other performance abilities. Using Song Points for anything outside of invoking Song Magic reduces the total available number of Song Points for the remainder of the day.
Songs Known: A Reyvateil's song magic draws from a set of known songs. She can invoke any song she knows without preparing it ahead of time. Every song has a verbal component and a maintenance cost; this maintenance cost also its effective spell level (rounded up) for the sake of save DCs and caster level checks to overcome spell resistance.
To learn or invoke a song, the effective spell level must be half the Reyvateil's level (minimum 1), and the Reyvateil must have a Charisma score equal to 10 + the effective spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a Reyvateil's song is 10 + the effective spell level + the Reyvateil's Charisma modifier. A Reyvateil has a Caster Level equal to her class level, despite her nonconventional form of magic.
The Reyvateil's selection of songs is extremely limited. A Reyvateil begins play knowing 1 song of her choice. At 2nd level and every two levels thereafter, she gains another song, as indicated on table: Reyvateil. Upon reaching 4th level and at every four levels after that, a Reyvateil can choose to learn a new song in place of one she already knows. She must meet the prerequisites for this new song. A Reyvateil can only swap a single song at any given level and must choose whether or not to swap the song at the same time that she gains a new song known. A Reyvateil can later learn bonus songs through her Cosmosphere.
A Reyvateil can learn Bardic Masterpieces provided her level meets the skill rank prerequisites. All such Masterpieces use her Perform (sing) check. Masterpieces can be taken as a feat or known song. Once chosen, they cannot be changed or replaced unlike normal songs.
Common to every Reyvateil are a few select songs as follows.
Primal Word (Sp): A Primal Word is the simplest form of Song Magic and costs 1 Song Point per round to maintain. When released, a Primal Word is a 5-ft. radius burst with a range of 60 feet, dealing 1d6 points of untyped energy damage per Burst (Reflex negates); this energy damage is affected by any form of energy resistance. When the Reyvateil's Burst reaches every multiple of her charisma modifier, the radius increases by 5 ft. to a maximum of 20 ft. At 5th level, this spell's damage dice increases to d8, and at 13th level it becomes d10.
Primal Word is equivalent to a 1st level spell for the sake of save DCs and caster level checks to overcome spell resistance, though Grathnode installations may alter this per Song rules. This is an evocation effect that is affected by Spell Focus.
Life Fill (Sp): At 2nd level, a Reyvateil can heal her allies during combat. While maintained at a cost of 3 Song Points per round, any allies within 20 ft. of her gain Fast Healing 1. This number increases by 1 every time the Reyvateil's Burst reaches a multiple of her charisma modifier, to a maximum of her caster level.
Life Fill is equivalent to a 1st level spell for the sake of caster level checks to overcome spell resistance, though Grathnode installations may alter this per Song rules. This is a conjuration effect for the sake of feats or class features that alter caster levels for certain schools.
Tower Connection (Sp): At 19th level, a Reyvateil who completes her 9th Cosmosphere level gains the ability to call upon the tower to fire directly upon her foes. This song costs 10 Song Points per round to maintain. When released the Reyvateil selects four points on the map, plus one for every multiple of her charisma modifier that her burst gauge has reached, to a maximum of nine points. Each point erupts in a 20-ft. radius column of energy with an effectively infinite height as the tower bombards the battlefield, dealing 1d6 holy (or unholy) damage per Burst (Reflex halves). If a creature is within the area of more than one column, it must save separately against each.
Tower Connection is equivalent to a 9th level spell for the sake of save DCs and caster level checks to overcome spell resistances. Per the song rules, it cannot exceed this. This is an evocation effect that is affected by Spell Focus.
Green Magic (Sp): A Reyvateil has the ability to learn Green Magic, small utilitarian spells. At 1st level, she has 2 such songs; these can be any cantrip or orison that does not require an attack roll, and are usable at will. By unlocking additional levels in her Cosmosphere, she can additionally learn 1 more for every such Cosmosphere level.

Costume (Su): At 3rd level, a Reyvateil gains the ability to manifest aspects of her inner self as a move action, a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. This effect lasts for a number of minutes equal to her caster level or until dismissed. After completing a Cosmosphere level, she can select one effect from the following list and ascribe it to a particular aspect she took in her Cosmosphere, providing her with its benefits while she is in that aspect.
GD Resist Up: Songs have their maintenance cost reduced by 0.5, to a minimum of 1.
Harmonisation Up: Songs accumulate an additional 0.5 points of Burst per round.
Burst Support: Perform (sing) checks made to maintain a song have a +4 bonus.
HP Bonus: The Reyvateil gains temporary HP equal to her caster level.
SP Bonus: The Reyvateil gains bonus Song Points equal to half of her caster level.
For every three completed Cosmosphere levels after 1st (e.g. 4th, 7th), the number of effects a Reyvateil can select for a new costume increases by one. She can select the same effect multiple times, allowing them to stack.
Bonus Feat: At 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter, a Reyvateil gains a bonus feat. This can be a feat that affects her Song Magic (including feats which affect Bardic Performance), a Bardic Masterpiece, a teamwork feat or Spell Focus. She must meet the prerequisites for these feats, though she follows the rules mentioned earlier for determining Masterpiece prerequisites.

Songs[edit]
A Reyvateil's Song Magic is divided into three categories: Red Magic, Blue Magic, and Green Magic. Red Magic is often used offensively, by charging it gradually and releasing it with deadly force. Blue Magic provides various support abilities which gradually improve while maintained. Green Magic is more utilitarian.
