1MG(F) Vosil Zakalwe is a player character in Bottom of the B'Inn. Formerly a linesman investigator in the Zein Armed Forces Infantry, Vosil left the exciting life of a military police detective to join the Thaumanautical Corps after being offered a promotion, better pay, and benefits for his extended family by General Yilim, the Overseer General of the Thaumanauts.

Vosil takes his job seriously. He's a military man through-and-through, as well as a decorated internal affairs investigator. He's fond of couching irony in technical and legal terminology, and most often will introduce himself as "from the Government, here to help you" and complete the sentence from there.

Performance reviews indicate that 1MG(F) Zakalwe tends to use the most direct possible solution to the problem. If he feels his job is best performed in a situation without force, he will minimize force. He has a love of theater, and has been known to "ham it up" for dramatic effect to extract information from suspects during interrogations. His disposition is, even after his conversion to a Thaumanaut, cheerful yet deliberate. He likes playing Bad Cop.

As a final note, it is a standing order to the Thaumanautical Corps that they are never to remove their suit around others. There is an interesting feature of the suits themselves as a magical artifact that they can, in fact, eat and drink through the helmet normally if such a thing is desired or required.

Description[edit]

A thick, heavy black leather-and-rubber suit. Apparently airtight and fireproof, with thick cotton-wrapped leather retention belts, a twist lock under the neck ring marked "EMERGENCY RELEASE" in five different languages, and a large ceramic-and-glass bubble helmet atop. The glass was once entirely clear but is slowly yellowing (and browning) from the inside. All that can be seen within is thick, roiling black smoke. The kind of greasy, heavy smoke you get when you set a person on fire. On the left shoulder is the flag of the nation-state of Zein, its field of seven-pointed stars oriented toward the chest. On the upper right arm is his rank emblem and "Vosil ZAKALWE" embroidered on a nametape. The suit is warm, body-temperature to the touch. The metal parts are actively hot.

Quote[edit]

They locked the helmet, made sure I had air, and then the General asked me to close my eyes. He asked what I saw.

I told him the truth: I saw the world on fire. All life burns.

There was motion against the glass. 'Keep your eyes closed,' he said. 'You'll need them later.'
