Introduction[edit]
Lillian "Lily" Costello-Holly was a part-time photographer and mage-in-training. Unknown circumstances lead to her and her friends being sent to (what appears to be) an alternate reality and placed into a simulation. Upon escaping from the simulation, they were taken to the flying Catacomb fortress. Lily is currently researching information about inhabitants of the world they are in while awaiting to meet with a new companion who has associations with Jamie Curio.
GURPS Character Sheet[edit]
Lily's GURPS character sheet can be found here: GURPS Sheet
Appearance[edit]
Lily is 5'10" tall, with a slender figure, weighing in at 145 lbs. Her hair, brown in color, reaches down to her shoulders. Her eyes are amber colored.
Lily's typical outfit consists of a short skirt with a belt (which contains a pouch for her camera), a short-sleeve v-neck shirt, low-heeled (usually 1/2" to 1" tall) shoes, light-colored pantyhose, a pair of white flower-shaped earrings, 2 silver bracelets on her right wrist, a silver watch on her left wrist, and flower hairclips in her hair.
Lily can be considered very attractive. While she is not drop-dead gorgeous, she is beautiful enough to not need makeup to keep up her appearance. This likely stems from the beauty of her mother.

Personality[edit]
Lily is generally a very kind person and tries to be a voice of reason. She tries her best not to let things get to her. She doesn't get angry very often, and even when she does, it is nowhere near as bad as when most people get angry.
Lily has a tendency to be truthful most of the time, a trait she picked up from her mother, but she is not above the occasional lie here and there, a trait she picked up from her father. She is very trusting of her family and close friends, but she has a hard time trusting others initially. The trustfulness she has towards her family and friends has given her a strong sense of duty towards them. She is also very selfless, putting others before her own needs.
Lily is normally a pacifist, only getting in combat if it is to protect herself or her companions.
Lily is outgoing and playful, and while she does have her childish moments, she has enough maturity to keep it in check and only show off that side of her when it is necessary.
Lily is curious about things and will try to learn all she can when bitten by the curiosity bug. This is helped by her love of reading.
Lily's personality while drunk isn't currently known, as she has an intolerance for alcohol and cannot hold it in.
Relationships[edit]
Family[edit]
- Acuzio Costello-Holly
- Lily's father. Commander of the Nuo Police Department. Lily didn't spend as much time with him she did with her mother, mostly because of his job.
- Sakura Costello-Holly
- Lily's mother. Former Outside Agent, currently Secretariat of the Nuo Police Department. Lily thinks very highly of Sakura, having learned cosmic magic from her.
- Nailan Costello-Holly
- Lily's younger brother. Works in the Nuo Police Department. Lily wishes he would lighten up at times, and nowadays she only talks with him on occasion because he is usually occupied with his job.
- Reika Costello-Holly
- Lily's younger sister. Works part-time as an engineer and part-time as a librarian. Lily admires Reika's intelligence and would often stand up for her when her shyness would cause problems.
- Kyreth Costello-Holly
- Lily's younger brother. Took up dancing, following in Sakura's footsteps. Lily would often practice her white magic on Kyreth because of his clumsiness getting him hurt.
- Iris Costello-Holly
- Lily's younger sister. Still in school. Lily sometimes feels that Iris is a brat because of how she acts.
Comrades[edit]
- Sir Afton Grant
- Lily has yet to meet with Afton.
Friends[edit]
- Corin Tart
- Lily sees Corin as somewhat of an older brother, despite there being no blood relation between the two of them. She feels safe around him, except for in the case of him going berserk.
- Estelle Tart
- Lily sees Ellie as somewhat of an older sister, despite there being no blood relation between the two of them. She enjoys hanging out with Ellie, but wishes that Ellie would act more her age and less impulsive.
- Katilline Luminous Entane
- Lily often gets frustrated with Kat's childish behavior and constant need to poke fun at everything, but over time she has gotten used to it to the point of it not really phasing her much anymore.
Love Interests[edit]
Enemies[edit]
- The Brotherhood
- At first, Lily only had second-hand accounts of the Brotherhood from Sakura and Sakura's friends, but what she had heard of them made her dislike the actions they chose. This dislike turned into minor hatred upon meeting with the Brotherhood in the reality she and her friends are currently in. She doesn't understand why the Brotherhood is so hellbent on destroying existence, but she is also confused by the motives that some of their members have shown to them.
Abilities and Powers[edit]
Physical Abilities[edit]
Lily's physical abilities are average, at best. Having trained mostly as a mage, her physical strength is just a bit below average. However, she is extremely dexterous as a result of learning acrobatics as a hobby.
As a half-elf, Lily has the benefits of slightly better hearing and minor night vision.
Lily has slight farsightedness and requires glasses only while reading.
Lily sleeps more than most people, an unfortunate trait she gained from her father's laziness. She also has a tendency to sleepwalk.
Magical Abilities[edit]
Lily once commanded magic very similar to the cosmic magic that her mother used as well as the white magic that her "aunt" Dacquoise Tart used.
Currently, Lily no longer has access to the magic she wielded in her own world and is in the process of learning about a new form of magic that has been bestowed upon her. What she has learned is that the magic comes from "Moonspeaker", the current reality's version of her mother, and that the words used are of a language Moonspeaker used, with the words being called KEYS.
The KEYS that Lily currently knows are:
- Treyo (n.)
- Lily doesn't know what power this word contains, but it appears to be associated with the current reality's versions of Allen and Wendy Horatio.
- Quise (n.)
- Lily doesn't know what power this word contains.
- Ym-Yz (v.)
- Lily doesn't know what power this word contains.
Mental Abilities[edit]
Lily has a remarkably sharp memory, also known as eidetic memory. While her memory is not in 100% perfect detail, she retains some level of information about anything she has come across. This lead to her breaking a memory block within the simulation when she realized that she was unable to remember events from prior to the start of the simulation.
Lily has an impeccable sense of time, a trait bestowed upon her from training with Sakura in cosmic magic. Sakura also instilled a high sense of honesty within Lily, although she is able to lie if she feels she needs to.
Lily sometimes hears annoying phantom voices. She does not know why she hears them or where they came from.
Fighting Style[edit]
Lily typically fights with her magic. In the event that she has to go into hand-to-hand combat, she prefers utilizing a staff as a bludgeoning weapon.
Lily also has minor knowledge of how to utilize firearms, mainly pistols, which she learned from her father.
History[edit]
Pre-O2[edit]
Lily was born in Nuo on the planet Dacquoi IV on February 1 to Acuzio and Sakura Costello-Holly, 10 years after Mr. Bear's departure from Dacquoi IV. She is their first born child. She lived a relatively normal and peaceful life.
Lily was taught cosmic magic as a teenager by Sakura. She also got some minor knowledge of white magic from Dacquoise Tart.
O2[edit]
[NOTE: This section probably needs heavy editing to be a lot more concise and focused more on Lily alone, but it is a bit hard to summarize what she did without mentioning other things that happened so it doesn't sound weird... at least in my opinion. - CyberBotX (talk) 23:52, 18 June 2015 (EDT)]
Chapter 1: Retentia[edit]
When Lily was 25 years old, unknown circumstances caused her to end up in another reality than the one she knew. Along with 3 of her friends, she was unknowingly trapped inside a very complex simulation, where she believed she was only 15 years old. She was being raised in a village and had no knowledge of her real family, nor did she have any knowledge about how she got there.
Lily and Kat were being prepped to taking a trial known as The Trial of the Soul, one that Corin and Ellie had taken 5 years prior. When the village's elder started to summon the demon for the trial, Lily noticed that he wasn't actually casting any magic at all. A sudden burst of fire from the summoning ritual sent the village into a panic and Lily tried to help with her magic as best as she could. Along with her friends, Lily fell into a chasm that was caused by an invisible pyromancer, getting knocked unconscious from falling debris and nearly being killed. However, the pyromancer saved her life by transferring some vitality from Corin to her. It was not until Ellie used magic to speak the pyromancer's language that the group learned who he (and his female companion who showed up while they slept) was. The man was named Brother Incinerator and the woman was named Sister Historian, and the two had been sent to collect the children to meet with a "wizard".
To help on the way to meet with the wizard (who they learned is technically dead), Lily provided light with her magic. The trip was expected to take 3 days. On the first day, when the party was attacked by giant spiders, Lily helped out by flinging her knife at one of them with her magic. After the rather short battle, Lily suffered some minor injuries when Incinerator caused an explosion of rocks to pelt them, and the group was separated from Incinerator. Lily continued to provide light as the group entered a maze-like area while being hunted by more spiders. The group encountered a room filled with water and Lily used her magic to create another light to attempt to see how deep it was. When something in the area starts to cause Corin and Kat to get exhausted, Lily moves to help Kat along, but slowly starts to succumb to the same fate. They are soon saved by Sister Historian (although they didn't know it because she was in disguise).
The party leaves the caves and boards an airship belonging to the same race of people that Incinerator and Historian belonged to. The group rested until they were called upon to help defend the ship. Lily was able to sleep through the night but was plagued by phantom voices in her sleep. In the morning, they were talked to by Incinerator and Historian, who asked them if they wanted to go back home or not. Lily took the initiative to say they she would prefer continuing on instead of going home. Lily takes some time later on to practice her magic and sing, which seems to help ease some tension aboard the ship. When the ship encounters an unknown being, Lily showed reluctance to battle it as it hadn't shown any actual hostility yet.
After the group begins to attack the being, who starts looking like a dragon, Lily is asked to attack it, although she is still reluctant to do so. To that effect, she casts her strongest spell, a fully charged fireball, at the dragon. It seemed to do nothing to the being, now screaming something about "Poena", which was later learned to be its name. A moment later, she attacked it again with another fireball, giving a spot for Corin to attack it, following his attack with a 3rd fireball. The ship, having been attacked by the creature, is hit again and crashed, injuring everyone, but leaving Lily as the only conscious one of her friends. All of them are carried along on foot to continue the journey, and to pass the time while they are resting, Lily sings softly, later joined by Ellie.
Eventually, the group is split between Lily and her friends being escorted by Incinerator, and Historian going back to check on the crashed airship. Incinerator leads the group to a rock face, and walks through it, showing it to be an illusion to protect the entrance to where the wizard was waiting. They find out that the wizard is called Cantor Animarium, but that he can be called Decadus, a name that would've sparked something in Lily if she had her memory. Decadus mentions that he is the same as the ones who were following the group, but he was helping them, and while he explains all this, the dragon appears again along with a shadowy figure. Lily helps attack the shadow by attacking masks on his body with her fireball spell. The group gets knocked down by a shockwave caused by the shadow, calling himself Brother Enthymema, and he traps them in a golden box. Enthymema explains he is planning on killing them, but that he will allow the party to recover beforehand, so Lily speeds up her energy recovery in the meantime.
Enthymema explains that the party is trapped and asleep, inside a computer simulation, and that when they leave, the simulated universe would end, but if the party was killed, the universe would reset itself. Enthymema talks about the past, but when Lily tries to recall the past, she gets a headache. Enthymema talks about the Brotherhood to the party, and shows the party the people that were outside the tower. Along with Incinerator and Historian were another woman, all bandaged up, named War Maiden and a small man named Serpentine. Kat had someone used previously unknown (to her recollection) computer programming skills to turn the four into weapons for the party, with Lily getting Serpentine as a staff called the Rod of Asclepius. Once the weapons were formed, Lily helped resume attacking Enthymema, first with a fireball and then flinging her knife with her Winged Knife spell. However, Lily's knife is caught by an emerging figure, a woman who used the party's attacks to completely destroy Enthymema. She tells the party that they are trapped in the simulation and only she will allow them to leave it. In the process of returning Lily's knife back, the knife is lodged into the floor and covers Lily with blood, putting her in a state of shock.
Despite the shock, Lily rushes over to help Corin, who had been injured during the battle. Lily nearly falls into a nervous breakdown, but somehow doesn't quite get that far. Decadus explains that the woman is the head of the Brotherhood but he will not help them, which causes Lily to berate him for his role in this. After Decadus leaves them, Lily starts to panic over what is happening and why she can't remember anything prior to the events they recall from the village. She rests with her Recovery Energy spell, but overhars as the wildlings start using their actual names, with Incinerator and Historian being Allen and Wendy Horatio, and War Maiden and Serpentine being Dizzy and Myrh Calico. The mention of surnames makes Lily realize she doesn't even know if she has a surname, but she gets another headache upon trying to remember. Although the others tried to lighten the mood by talking about tea they enjoyed, Lily couldn't help but continue to stress over her inability to remember their past.
After a night of rest, Decadus is summoned back to the group. He tells them they aren't able to tap into the energies in the spot they were in, and Lily tried once more to recall their past. Somehow, she succeed in getting past the memory block, actually altering her appearance to her real 25 year old self in the process, as well as causing the same change to happen to her friends. This revelation caused the world to crack, and also revealed that the woman who was called the head of the Brotherhood was actually Shera Luminous. Although Shera wanted to reseal their memories, the party was not going to allow it, and Lily even verbally lashed out at Shera for the bad words she was saying about their families.
The group then entered into battle with Shera, in a crazy mess of a world. In the confusion, the party loses track of Shera, but Lily manages to hear where Shera is, and uses her Flight spell on Corin and herself to go towards Shera. Although her spell was canceled, Lily's sense of time eventually allows her to feel the heartbeat of the simulation and react accordingly. With the knowledge that she could react more quickly than he friends, she hasted herself and healed Kat, asking her to make a shield out of the debris that was being used to attack them. Then, using her haste, Lily was able to react fast enough to create fire on her knife, fling it at Shera, and create a fireball to affect an oncoming attack of iron cubes, all before Shera's next action could occur. Shera was about to let loose an attack that was going to be rather painful to the party, but Lily had noticed that Kat pulled up a camera feed of the world outside the simulation, specifically the pods the party was in. In a last-ditch effort, Lily used an Awaken spell on the group, freeing them from the simulation.
Chapter 2: Memoria Speculo Fracto[edit]
Lily eventually wakes up in a bed inside of a ruined room, alone and feeling terrible. She dragged herself out of bed, hearing gunshots from outside the room. She found that she was wearing something that looked like a hospital gown and body suit combined into one. Upon searching the room, she finds a switch in a drawer and reveals a safe containing a loaded pistol. After examining the pistol, she decided to use her magic on herself to sense her body's state. Although the spell used some of her mana and didn't actually fail to cast, it failed to work.
As Lily pondered why the spell failed to work, she was interrupted by voices outside the room calling to her. Although she prepared herself by getting the pistol ready, she was shocked as the door dissolved away, revealing a human being melted into nothingness and a being with burning yellow eyes and glowing yellow hands, telling her to stay. She quickly reacted by firing at the being with the pistol, aiming for the being's chest. The being seemed to not react, but was distracted enough for Lily to leave the room and encounter what seemed like a war zone.
Lily was completely confused about the situation she was in, seeing people battling robots and not knowing who was friend or foe. She heard someone tell her to stop, but she waited a moment. Everything started to go to chaos and Lily had little time to react to people dying around her telling her to leave, especially a blue armored figure yelling at her to run. She was in a panic, but started to run in the direction that had been indicated to her earlier. Amidst the chaos, though, she heard Kat's voice and rushed to meet with her.
Although the blue armored figure was protecting them, it got attacked by what looked like Corin and Ellie, but Lily thought something seemed wrong with the twins. She cast a Keen Vision spell on herself, and while it really did look like the twins, she noticed something odd once "Ellie" mentioned that Kat and her were doppelgangers. Lily's magically enhanced vision caught a golden aura coming from "Ellie", while both the girls saw a red glow coming off of "Corin". When "Ellie" shot at them, Lily wasn't fully able to dodge the attack, but retaliated against "Ellie" by flinging a Fireball at her. Although the fireball was dodged, Lily was surprised when she saw "herself" show up to help the twins escape.
The blue armored figure was in pretty bad shape, and after reporting on the situation, asks the girls to help him walk around. Lily helps get to the location of a drop ship of sorts, meeting up with Ellie but not seeing Corin at all. In the midst of it all, they were fed. Lily had wanted to find out from Ellie what happened to Corin, but resisted due to how Ellie was acting. While talking to Kat, Lily reasoned that they weren't looking for Corin because Ellie wasn't protesting it. After their small talk, Lily attempted to rest. But she came to realize that the armored figure resembled Felan Moonhowl from their own reality, albeit with some subtle differences. But eventually, Lily does fall asleep.
Lily was woken up by Ellie, who led them up to the deck of the ship. There they saw a sunrise as they approached the ship known as the Catacomb. The wolf-man led them onto the ship to meet with the Queen, answering their questions, with Lily only asking where they were and who this Queen was, although Lily had an idea of who it might be. This was partially confirmed when they were told that the Queen was The Luminous. Although he did answer her on where they were, he only mentioned the ship, to which Lily questioned him about the planet and how they ended up there, the latter of which made Lily realize she had a gap in her memory. Lily's questions were not answered by the wolf-man, however.
The group was led into a room where the Queen was, who answered Lily's questions. She was told that the planet was Dacquoi IV, but not the one their group knew of. Lily was shocked at learning they were in an alternate reality, despite being told of the possibility by her mother. Lily was going to ask some more questions but was interrupted when Kat started laughing at the Queen, so she waited until Kat's laughing fit calmed down. Lily asked a few more questions, but most were met with an "I don't know" response or half-answers.

Misc.[edit]
Etymology[edit]
- Lillian
- Probably originally a diminutive of Elizabeth. She was given this name by Acuzio, coming from the name of his friend Lillian Alegon. This is because Sakura was rather insistent on naming her Lily, but needed an alternative when Lilly Moonhowl was born.
- Lily
- From the name of the flower, a symbol of purity. Sakura chose the name originally to honor the loss of her own sister, Sayuri, whose name is Japanese in origin and means "Small Lily".
- Costello-Holly
- Costello ???. Holly comes from the name of the plant. The full surname comes from the hyphenation of both Acuzio's original surname (Costello) and Sakura's original surname (Holly).
Trivia[edit]
- The first born of the children of Acuzio and Sakura Costello-Holly.
- Enjoys acrobatics and singing (although her singing is nowhere near the level of Ellie Tart).
- Has a soft spot for chocolate (but with much less intensity than her mother).
- Likes to read.
