Introduction

Sir Afton Grant was originally a mid-level ranked soldier in the Royal Guard of Pridian Knell. After a successful coup d'état, he was sentenced to an undignified execution, only to be revived as an Outsider by Jamie Curio. Now working for Curio as part of the Lost Boys, Afton has been assigned a special mission to find a missing artifact that may aid in the fight against The Brotherhood.

Appearance

Above all else, Afton could be described as outstanding in appearance. A weedy young man in his mid-twenties, he towers over many of his comrades in arms. On top of this, his hair is a bright, ginger orange, and a large, unseemly scar covers a large portion of his face.

Personality

Crass, crude, and unrefined, Sir Grant is not the kind of man to bring back home. While Afton has extensive training in etiquette and social code, he seems to make a point of ignoring-- or downright doing the opposite of-- his savoir-faire knowledge.

With hobbies like drinking and fist-fighting, his downtime paints him as the perfect drunken tramp. Afton has been personally banned from many bars in his home town, though that does little to deter him from sneaking back in. Despite the obvious contradiction, he lives by a 'You Only Live Once' viewpoint, and will often act thoughtless and reckless in order to have a good time. He is easily egged on by others, and will not back down from a bet if he's been drinking.

Though, Afton is not without a sensitive side. He has a keen interest in music, and aside from fighting, it would be one of the few things he takes very seriously. He treats his guitar as gingerly as one might a child, and has been known to stay up late trying to write love songs. That being said-- he'd be mortified (And most likely violent) if anyone were to find his secret notes of sheet music and lyrics.

When he is on-duty, however, his personality takes a sharp one-eighty. Professional to a fault, Afton will hold himself back from any enjoyment until he is relieved of duty, and will look down on anyone who does anything less than their utmost. This habit of his has been greatly reduced thanks to Curio, however, Afton is quick to fall into old habits when in any of the Outsiders presence-- at least until told to do otherwise.

Relationships

Family

Oscar Grant
Afton's father. A stern and heroic man. Afton idolized his father and was a complete father's boy, going so far as to enlist to impress him. Oscar was warm and inviting, though old-fashioned, and greatly contributed to Afton's closed-minded viewpoints.
Aileen Grant
Afton's Mother. She never spent much time with Afton as she employed a wet nurse with all of her children. A high-class woman focused on her place in society, Afton never had much of an opinion of his mother, though he saw nothing wrong with her choices in life.
Alan Grant
The eldest twin, born eight years after Afton. Alan and his twin Angus seemed to look up to their older brother, but never developed the rebellious streak that Afton did. Afton took great delight in bullying them, but would also go out of his way to intimidate anyone who tried to mess with his little brothers. Alan was the more intelligent and less enthusiastic of the brothers, so Afton never particularly clicked with him, instead seeing him as an 'accessory' to Angus.
Angus Grant
The younger twin, born eight years after Afton. Angus was far more interested in physical pursuits, often pretending to be a 'Hero of Justice' and playing out vast adventures with his brother, who simply tagged along. Afton preferred Angus, egging his schemes along and eventually rescuing his little brothers when things got over their head.
Annabel Grant
The youngest Grant child and only female, Annabel was born eleven years after Afton. She was a shy and sweet girl who rarely spoke up, but dreamed of leadership. Annabel fancied herself a princess in private, and would stage tiny political escapades in her bedroom. Afton adored her, and promised to both act as her knight and also, eventually, hook her up with the prince that he protected.
May O'Brian
The Grant family nanny, May raised all of the Grant children. Despite being a heavy-set woman in her early forties, she was Afton's first crush, as well as his first physical encounter. He will staunchly refuse to ever tell the story of May, but he does remember her quite fondly.

Comrades

Jamie Curio
Afton's Captain and direct supervisor, the two have a... needlessly, one-sidedly complex relationship. Afton idealizes Curio as a military man, often overlooking Curio's many faults to hold him in a higher regard. Still, there is only so much that can be overlooked, and Curio's lax personality has drawn out Afton's real self, allowing him to be less professional and more honest around his Captain.
Kendra
Originally met in Periphery, Kendra was tasked as Afton's caregiver. Despite finding her exceedingly strange, Afton trusts and rather likes Kendra. He's upset by her relationship with the rest of Periphery, but is unsure if it is even his place to try to 'fix' things.

Friends

”The Young Master”
The second-born prince of the Royal Family of Pridian Knell, Afton was specifically tasked with protecting “The Young Master” due to their similar ages. The two became friends begrudgingly, as Afton's crude and abrasive personality offended the Prince, but over time, the two developed an intense trust. During a political upheaval caused by the Prince's elder brother, Afton was captured and executed for refusing to reveal where his lord had escaped to. He still refuses to talk about anything involving the Prince out of a deep respect.

Love Interests

Ellie Tart
???? Who even knows???
Every Other Woman, Ever
Ready and willing, ladies.

Enemies

The Brotherhood
Afton doesn't actually understand the underlying reasons for why he must fight the Brotherhood, but he does understand that they have hurt and killed many of his comrades, and that is more than enough reason to fight.

Abilities and Powers

Physical Abilities

Afton has focused intensely on his physical abilities, training himself in multiple weapons and fighting styles in order to be the most adaptive fighter he can manage. He has trained with polearms, swords, thrown knives, and brawling, adapting many into his own unique style.

Rather than fixating purely on physical strength, Afton has dedication a large amount of his training to speed and dexterity-- an odd choice considering his lanky stature, but one that allows him to make quick decisions and unorthodox movements on the battlefield in order to get an edge on his opponent.

Also, though not as a result of training, frequent bar and street fights have contributed to his rough-and-tumble style, and has allowed Afton to develop into a quite proficient fighter with improvised weapons and intoxicated fighting.

Magical Abilities

Afton has a distinct lack of any kind of magic. He is completely unable to use it, and, in fact, is immune to most magical effects.

Mental Abilities

While Afton is specifically trained in strategy and survivability, mental abilities are not his strong point. He has no exceptional mental capacity or abilities worth mentioning.

Fighting Style

Exactly-as-it-was-Trained
Knight-Trained combat with no wasted movement. Relies on ony one weapon at a time and coordinated footwork. This is the style Afton will use if he is being watched by his superiors or when he is acutely aware of his mission. (Really, not that they even care if he looks professional, but its a HABIT.)
The Normal Way
The way Afton falls into fighting when he isn't concentrating on his form-- This style is much flashier yet also more brutal, incorporating attacks from his halberd, short sword, and punches/kicks together to keep a steady string of combo attacks to force his enemies on the defense. Afton is not above flipping his weapons around him or tossing them from hand to hand to change direction and catch opponents off-guard. This style still has roots in his basic knight training, but has been adapted with his own personal flair to make it feel more natural to him.
